Kettle care guide
Minerals in tap water form limescale on the inside of any kettle. On a Tamsrill kettle limescale also covers the temperature sensor, which makes the kettle stop a degree or two away from the set temperature. Regular descaling keeps the temperature accurate and the water tasting clean.
Descaling with citric acid
- Fill the kettle with 500 ml of water and add one tablespoon of citric acid powder.
- Heat to 80 °C (M3: use the 80 preset; M4: set the dial to 80).
- Switch off and leave the solution in the kettle for 20 minutes.
- Pour it out through the spout, so the spout is descaled too.
- Rinse twice with clean water, then boil one full kettle of fresh water and pour it away.
Do not use vinegar. It leaves a smell in the double wall seal that can take weeks to disappear.
Outside and spout
- Wipe the outside with a damp cloth. On the M4, avoid abrasive pads, which polish the matte coating into shiny patches.
- Clean the inside of the gooseneck spout once a month with a bottle brush no wider than 8 mm.
- Never put the kettle or the base in the dishwasher or under a running tap.
Lid seal
The silicone lid seal keeps steam inside. Pull it off every few months, rinse it in warm soapy water and press it back into the groove, starting at the hinge. Replace it when it no longer sits flat or if steam escapes around the lid.
Storage
If you will not use the kettle for more than a week, empty it, leave the lid open for an hour to dry, and store it with the lid closed so dust stays out. Standing water left for days is the main cause of a stale taste.
